Why I Chose Psychology and My Journey So Far

Have you ever been fascinated by the way people connect, grow, and overcome challenges? That curiosity is what first drew me to psychology. I’ve always been passionate about understanding people on a deeper level and finding ways to help them thrive. Becoming a counselor has been my dream for as long as I can remember, and now, I’m finally on the path to fulfilling it.

The Beginning of My Journey

When I started my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I knew I was pursuing more than just a career—I was chasing a lifelong calling. So far, I’m almost halfway through my degree, and the experience has been incredible.

I’ve had the opportunity to study a variety of topics that have helped me grow, not only as a student but as a person. From learning communication skills and understanding team dynamics to diving into ethics, cultural awareness, and self-expression, every class has taught me something valuable. Two of my favorite courses so far have been Introduction to Psychology and The Psychology of Learning. They’ve given me foundational knowledge and sparked a deeper passion for this field.

Looking Toward the Future

As I continue my studies, my vision for the future is becoming clearer. Next year, I plan to start my master’s program to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). My goal is to work with married couples and families, helping them navigate challenges, strengthen their relationships, and find hope.

This goal is especially meaningful to me because I’ve been married for 8 years myself. My own experiences have taught me so much about the dynamics of relationships, and I’m excited to combine that personal understanding with professional expertise. In many ways, I feel like I’ll be practicing what I teach.

Eventually, I want to open my own private practice—a place that feels less like an office and more like a home. I believe that creating a warm, inviting space can make a huge difference for clients who may feel vulnerable when seeking therapy.

Growth and Purpose

This journey has taught me that growth isn’t always linear, but it’s always worth pursuing. Whether I’m learning about reason and evidence or reflecting on self-expression, every step brings me closer to becoming the therapist I’ve dreamed of being.

Psychology is more than just a career for me—it’s a way to connect, heal, and inspire others. I can’t wait to see where this path leads, and I’m grateful to have you join me on this journey.
